Workwell Foundation is pleased to announce the publication of a new case report in the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal: “Blood Flow to the Head in a Person With Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Experiencing Postexertional Malaise.”
This proof-of-concept study examined how blood flow to the head changes after exertion in a person with ME compared to a healthy control. Using the Lumia™ in-ear device, researchers documented significant reductions in blood flow during post-exertional malaise—alongside the hallmark drop in functional capacity, chronotropic incompetence, and worsening orthostatic intolerance.
The results point to measurable blood-flow changes during PEM and support future research into wearable tools for ME diagnosis, care, and monitoring.
