NIH PRESENTATION ON 2 DAY CPET
Staci Stevens and Mark VanNess gave an invited presentation to the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) ME/CFS special interest group on September 21, 2016. The lecture highlighted the importance of using 2-day cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) in ME/CFS to objectively characterize the magnitude of post-exertional malaise. The talk emphasized three key points related to the utility of 2 day CPET:
1. The ability to measure fatigue
2. The objective characterization of post-exertional malaise
3. The identification of ME/CFS subsets which point to symptom origins
Many of those in attendance will be involved in the upcoming NIH intramural ME/CFS study. The audience was interested during the presentation and asked excellent questions which resulted in engaging discussion. It was a pleasure to be invited to speak with a group that is preparing such an ambitious series of studies in ME/CFS.
