Workwell Foundation’s CPET Protocol Featured in ACSM Guidelines

Workwell Foundation is proud to announce that its pioneering 2-day Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPET) protocol for evaluating functional impairment in people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) has been officially recognized in the American College of Sports Medicine’s® (ACSM) Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription.

As the most widely used textbook in clinical exercise physiology, ACSM’s guidelines are regarded globally as the authoritative source for exercise testing best practices. The inclusion of Workwell Foundation’s CPET protocol marks a major milestone, further validating the scientific rigor and clinical relevance of the method, especially for identifying post-exertional malaise (PEM), a hallmark of ME/CFS and Long COVID.

Workwell Foundation’s CPET protocol has been used to support disability claims, guide pacing strategies, and advance clinical understanding of fatigue syndromes. Its inclusion in ACSM’s textbook brings international attention to the need for accurate and evidence-based testing for invisible illnesses.
